Toys for Not-So-Little Boys
Its close to midnight but a bank officer, medical representative, graphic artist, and IT manager are still huddled together over a wooden square table. With most sporting a pair for dice in one hand and a measuring tape in the other, a curious observer cannot help but wonder what on earth these guys are doing. What could be so fascinating an undertaking to be so focused on the table before them?
Considering the professions involved, the scene at the table at first glance seems like a modern diorama associated with real estate undertakings. However, a closer look would reveal the teenie tiny figures amidst the miniature structure not of modern architecture but of a rather prominent 12th-century castle complete with a defensive wall, moat and drawbridge.
A hostile takeover is in the making but the participants’ business this time around is of a rather different sort. What makes it especially different you ask? Let me say it in two words: Mage Knight.
The reason these professionals are so into this game is probably because of the unique miniature collectible figures involved. Considering the price tag attached to build a decent army, its not surprising that its the earning professional and not the average high schooler playing the game. Then again,
playing the role of warlords commanding a vast army fighting for a cause, glory or conquest is probably what brings a big smile to the faces of these kids-at-heart.
Been there. Done that. Already moved on with my life years ago but it sure brings back some fond memories.
