Better Safe Than Sorry
There was a blackout that lasted close to 8 hours a few days ago at the Xavier Heights area where we live. I do most of my work at home so back then I thought about how inconvenient it was for the power company to hit us with an unannounced power interruption.
When I got to the office, I found out later on from a colleague who lives in the same area that a worker from the firm constructing the house located a few blocks from ours got electrocuted and fell down from the second storey structure head first. Suffice to say that he did not make it to the hospital alive. It was terrible news that just got worse when I heard that the guy’s wife just recently gave birth.
It made me think about life and the things we take for granted. We can all be so caught up with our work and daily routines that we sometimes forget about our safety. Forgetting about that important fact can often lead to fatal results as the recent event has shown us. So the next time you’re in a hurry to plug in your electrical appliance or cross that busy street, better take a short breather and think about one thing: Safety First.
