The Day Valentino Bought Flowers

Feb 14th, 2008 by onyx | 0

cupidsValentine’s Day is a special day for me. It’s special because I get to break out of my usual dour, insensitive, preoccupied self and become- for one day only- an entirely different person. Like the green, crawly caterpillar-turned butterfly emerging from the cocoon and basking in the warm sunlight, I get up from my deep, dark, moldy computer desk, moving past the room straight out the door and on to the flower shop at the downtown area.

It’s a definite mystery for some but I have a really, really, really, valid explanation for all this: there’s so much love percolating in the air that I couldn’t help but breathe it in and feel it spreading all over my exercise-deficient body. As such, I am under a compulsion so irresistible that I cannot help but choose the most elegant and fragrant of flowers for the woman dear to my heart. My favorite florist has had a very busy day so I wait patiently. I patiently tap my foot against the concrete gutter while my bouquet is piece by singular piece, briskly turned into a wondrous floral masterpiece.flower art

Viola, it is done! Zigging and zagging I went to present my exceptionally rare gift (mainly due to the fact that I rarely do buy presents) along with my humble person to my one and only, better half. My efforts do not fail me. I am amply rewarded with those twinkling eyes and dazzling sunny smile directed at me. Such a fine day to be Valentino…such sweet ecstasy! What more could I ever ask for?

It is a special and beautiful day indeed.
